Just 130 km from Astana, Korgalzhyn Nature Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its vast wetlands and endless steppes. This protected area is home to some of Kazakhstan’s rarest wildlife. The wetlands attract migratory birds like pelicans, swans, and flamingos, while the steppe is home to unique animals, including the rare saiga antelope.

After exploring the reserve, we’ll enjoy a homemade traditional lunch at a local host’s home, experiencing warm Kazakh hospitality before heading back to Astana.
Our journey begins at the reserve’s museum, where we’ll learn about its history, ecosystems, and diverse wildlife through interactive exhibits. Then, we’ll venture into the reserve itself, driving through its remote landscapes to observe nature up close. With a bit of luck, we may spot flocks of flamingos wading in the shallow waters or herds of saiga moving across the steppe. In spring, the plains are covered in wild tulips in bloom, creating a stunning natural spectacle.
